Yipaala residents struggle to access clean water, share drinking water with animals

Residents of Yipaala community in the Dabo Electoral Area of the Wa West district, have no choice but to compete with animals for water from the stream.

According to the residents, ProNet North, a Nongovernmental Organization, drilled a borehole for them in 2016, but it has been out of service for over a year. This has left them with no option but to resort to their previous method of fetching water from the stream.

The residents lamented that water is essential for life, but they do not have access to potable water to drink.

Speaking to Info Radio, members of the community indicated that they have to travel a considerable distance to fetch water from the stream. They bemoaned that this situation is affecting their daily activities, especially their ability to work on their farms.

Some residents of the community have reported that they are unable to take a bath for an entire day due to the unavailability of water. They explained that if you arrive at the riverside after animals have already been there, you must wait for the debris in the water to settle before fetching water.

Mr. Kwabena Nupou, another resident, expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of the government's school feeding program at their school. He also mentioned that the school has insufficient classrooms and teaching materials, which is adversely affecting the quality of education.
