We’re implementing measures to enhance food production-Lambussie DCE

Mr Naluri George Gerard, the District Chief Executive (DCE) of Lambussie District Assembly, has emphasized the Assembly's commitment to investing heavily and implementing various measures to enhance food production in the district.

The DCE has stated that the Assembly will continue to create a conducive environment and provide essential inputs for the rapid growth of the agricultural sector.

In an interview on Info Radio's Ziennyaaye Upper West Programme, Mr Naluri revealed that the district has already supported farmers with farm inputs such as fertilizers and insecticides to increase production.

The Lambussie District Assembly is also working in partnership with the Agriculture Department towards making Lambussie the food basket of the Upper West Region.

Furthermore, the DCE explained that the Assembly had supported the Veterinary Department last year in vaccinating animals in the district against diseases.

“We also supported some farmers during the Farmers Day celebration last year to encourage them to increase their production. We gave pigs to a number of farmers to go into pig farming,” Mr Naluri added.

It was revealed that the Member of Parliament for the Lambussie constituency Mr Bright Bakye Yelviel Baligi, had purchased three farm tractors to assist local farmers.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) confirmed that two of these tractors are still in good condition and are being used to plough fields for farmers at a subsidized rate.

He also mentioned that the local government has partnered with Guinness Ghana to help farmers cultivate guinea corn, with the initiative set to begin in the coming year.
