The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the livelihoods of smallholder farmers through advocacy, access to agricultural inputs, capacity-building programmes, and improved market opportunities.
The Association says it remains the collective voice of peasant farmers, engaging government and development partners to advocate policies and interventions that promote agricultural production and enhance farmers' incomes.
Speaking in an interview with Info Radio, the Upper West Regional Focal Person of PFAG, Mr Salifu Amadu, said one of the key issues discussed at the Association's Annual General Meeting was the government's pledge to distribute 40,000 bags of fertilizer to support peasant farmers across the country.
Mr. Amadu disclosed that the Upper West Region has received 4,000 bags of fertilizer as its allocation under the initiative, describing the intervention as a significant boost for farmers ahead of the farming season.
He noted that PFAG also supports its members by facilitating access to improved seeds, fertilizer, credit facilities, and training in modern farming practices to increase productivity and improve household incomes. According to him, farmers seeking to benefit from the Association's interventions are required to meet specific eligibility criteria before accessing the support programmes.
Mr. Amadu further stated that PFAG promotes collective marketing to help farmers negotiate better prices for their produce and secure reliable markets.
He explained that the collective marketing approach reduces the risks faced by individual farmers while contributing to more stable and sustainable livelihoods for peasant farmers across Ghana.
