Wa: Azumah Resources donates GH¢100,000 to support 2026 Dumba festival

Azumah Resources Ghana Limited (ARGL), a subsidiary of the Dzata Group Holdings, has donated GH¢100,000 to the Wala Traditional Council to support the organization of the 2026 Dumba Festival, scheduled for August 25 to 31 in Wa.

The donation was presented to the Dumba Organizing Committee on August 22, 2026 at the Wa Naa's Palace, following a mega float through the streets of Wa organized by the Wala Traditional Council in collaboration with Jonjo Palace, a youth camp in Wa, to promote drug abuse prevention among the youth.

This year's Dumba festival is being celebrated under the theme, “Dumba 2026: Promoting Discipline and Progress – Protecting Our Youth from Substance Abuse,” with activities aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of drug and substance use among young people.

In addition to the GH¢100,000 contribution, ARGL presented an undisclosed amount of money to the Wa Naa, Overlord of the Wala State, and donated 200 branded T-shirts to Jonjo Palace to support the Dumba Jonjo Walk.

Presenting the donation, Project Director of Azumah Resources Ghana Limited, Prince Awuah, said the contribution formed part of the company's corporate social responsibility initiatives aimed at preserving the cultural heritage and traditions of its host communities.

“Azumah Resources is pleased to support the 2026 Dumba Festival. We believe that cultural festivals play an important role in preserving our heritage, promoting peace, unity and community development,” he said.

He added that the company's support reflected its commitment to being a responsible corporate partner to communities and traditional institutions within its operational areas.

The Secretary to the Overlord of the Wala State, Jinpenhi-Naa Kadiri Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to ARGL and its Group Chief Executive Officer, Dr Ibrahim Mahama, for the support.

He assured the company that the Traditional Council's doors remained open for dialogue and support, and expressed hope for an amicable resolution of the impasse between the mining company and some indigenes to enable smooth operations.

Chairman of the 2026 Dumba Organizing Committee, Duori-Naa Abdulai Osman Taasung Bilintoh, said the donation would go a long way in ensuring the successful celebration of the festival.

He also appealed to Azumah Resources to consider employing more young people from the Upper West Region, arguing that increased employment opportunities could help reduce illegal mining, crime and substance abuse among the youth.

The 2026 Dumba Festival is expected to combine cultural celebrations with public education on discipline, youth development and the prevention of drug and substance abuse.
