Residents of Deriziile, a community in the Tuori Electoral Area of the Daffiama/Bussie/Issa (DBI) District, have raised serious concerns over the lack of reliable access to potable water. During a recent community engagement with Info Radio, residents revealed that the community depends on a single borehole, which was drilled many years ago and no longer meets their needs.
Community members expressed that the sole water source is inadequate for their growing population, making daily water access a significant challenge. Women in the community highlighted the increased difficulties during the farming season, when they spend extended hours fetching water before tending to their farms. This situation often results in delays and tensions within households, as women return home late and are forced to prepare meals at night to manage their daily routines.
Madam Paulina Nong-ere, a community resident, explained that the water shortage also hampers the education of schoolchildren, who are unable to study in the afternoons as they are often tasked with fetching water, thus disrupting their academic activities.
Mr. Barnabas Vuu, speaking on behalf of the community, appealed to government authorities, non-governmental organizations, philanthropists, and other stakeholders to provide additional water facilities. He emphasized that community members are willing to contribute and collaborate with any organization committed to addressing the water crisis and improving living conditions.
