Final-year students from Wa Nursing Training College (NTC) have brought their 2025 community studies to a close in Ombo in the Nadowli Kaleo District.
The three-day outreach program, which culminated on May 4, was aimed at educating residents on critical issues including sanitation, personal hygiene, waste management, and maternal health. The initiative forms part of the students’ academic requirements and their broader mission to effect real change at the grassroots level.
Throughout the program, residents of Ombo were sensitized on topics such as proper waste disposal, refuse dump management, exclusive breastfeeding, and the dangers of alcoholism. The students conducted community assessments to identify pressing health issues and proposed practical solutions tailored to the local context.
Speaking to Info Radio, Mr. Naakolo Kala Emmanuel, a participating student, expressed appreciation for the warm hospitality received from the community.
“We’ve felt welcomed from day one. The community has been very supportive, providing us with meeting spaces and attending all our sessions. Today marks the climax of this journey, and we are grateful for the success we’ve achieved together,” he said.
The event saw active involvement from both community elders and children, with strong support from the local leadership.
Mr. Yendaw Eugene, the former Assembly Member for the Ombo-Kaaha Electoral Area, praised the initiative, noting that the education provided will go a long way to improve the health and wellbeing of the people.
“This kind of community engagement is exactly what we need to build healthier, more informed communities,” he said.
