Wa Naa Criticizes President Mahama Ministerial Reshuffle, Demands Immediate Action on Deplorable Roads

The Overlord of the Waala Traditional Council, Naa Fuseini Seidu Pelpuo IV, has conveyed the disappointment of traditional authorities and the people of the Upper West Region regarding the recent reshuffling of Dr. Hassan Rashid Pelpuo. Dr. Pelpuo was moved from his position as Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment to Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives at the Office of the President.

The concerns were outlined in a welcome address delivered at the climax of the 2026 Dumba Festival celebrations on Sunday, August 30, 2026, read on behalf of the Wa Naa by the Secretary of the Wala Traditional Council, Jinpenhi Naa Kadir Ibrahim. The Wa Naa expressed that the reshuffle dealt a significant blow to the region, which had consistently demonstrated loyalty to the National Democratic Congress (NDC), as it lost its only Cabinet Minister position.

He described the reshuffle not as an isolated incident but as part of a troubling pattern in the administration’s handling of Cabinet appointments for the Upper West Region, while expressing hope for improved representation in the future.

On infrastructure, the Wa Naa lamented the deplorable state of roads in the region, singling out the Wa–Bole–Bamboi route. He noted that the traditional area had received numerous unfulfilled promises regarding the road’s rehabilitation and would only be satisfied once construction is fully completed. The Wa Naa emphasized that the completed road is expected to significantly reduce travel time between the Upper West Region and the southern part of the country.

While affirming that the traditional council was not planning demonstrations over the matter, he expressed deep concern about the ongoing neglect and called for urgent action to resolve the issue.
