NDC Regional Chairmanship Aspirant Accuses Upper West NDC Leadership of Neglecting Grassroots
Mr. Sombawiera Samba-Sankara, an aspirant for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Upper West Regional chairmanship, has accused the party’s regional leadership of sidelining constituency executives and grassroots members.
Mr Samba-Sankara, who chairs the NDC in Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency, has filed his nomination to contest the position. He said he was seeking the chairmanship to address what he described as inequality and a lack of transparency within the regional party structure.
He alleged that contracts and other opportunities allocated to the region had not been shared fairly, claiming they were concentrated among a small group of people. Grassroots members and party executives who worked for the party, he said, had been left out.
Mr Samba-Sankara speaking to Info Radio during a radio interview also accused the incumbent Regional Chairman, Abdul Nasir Saani, of running the party “like a private business.” He said the regional executives had not met to make decisions on party matters since the NDC won the 2024 elections.
According to Mr Samba-Sankara, after several regional executives took up government appointments, the chairman should have engaged constituency chairpersons, the Council of Elders and former appointees to ensure the party continued to function collectively.
He further alleged that the regional leadership had failed to hold meetings to discuss party affairs or appointment opportunities allocated to the region.
Info Radio is making arrangement to speak with the Upper West Regional Chairman of the party Mr. Abdul Nasir Saani for his comments on the allegations made against his leadership style. Mr. Bunas as seeking re-election in the upcoming NDC regional executive elections scheduled for November, 2026.
