Residents of Wa- Mangu in the Wa Municipality are appealing to the Wa Municipal Assembly to urgently complete the long-abandoned Bonkperi Bridge, a critical link to the Wa New Market.
The unfinished bridge project has exposed the community to severe flooding, with even brief rainfall inundating homes and farmlands in Mangu, Kambali, and Zendil. Each rainy season brings hardship, forcing school children and the elderly to be carried through floodwaters just to access essential services and markets.
Local farmers report continuous crop losses, while traders suffer significant damage to their goods due to the persistent flooding. Community leaders speaking to Info Radio are calling on both the Wa Municipal Assembly and the central government to prioritize the bridge’s completion to safeguard lives and stimulate economic activity in the area.
The completion of the Bonkperi Bridge is seen as vital for improving safety, enhancing trade, and boosting the overall development of the Mangu community.
