The Chairman of the Upper West Regional Football Association (UWR FA), Alhaji Daudi Sadigu Yahaya, has appealed for the construction of more Astro Turfs in the region to boost the development of football. He made the appeal during the UWR FA Congress held at the Upland Hotel in Wa on Thursday day.
Addressing the delegates, Alhaji Yahaya emphasized that the availability of Astro Turfs will greatly improve football training and competitions in the region. He stated that the region has the required land available for the projects and called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to support the initiative.
“We are ready for this project. The land is available, and all we need is the necessary support to make it happen. An Astro Turf will not only help our players train under better conditions but also attract tournaments and events to the Upper West Region,” Alhaji Yahaya said.
The congress, which brought together football stakeholders from across the region, was graced by the Vice President of the GFA, Mr. Mark Addo. In his address, Mr. Addo commended the efforts of the regional football leadership and assured the UWR FA of the GFA’s continued support for grassroots football development.
The congress also focused on reviewing the progress of football activities in the region, discussing challenges, and strategizing for the upcoming football season.
The Upper West Region remains one of the areas in Ghana with untapped football potential, and local football authorities are hopeful that the construction of Astro Turfs will enhance the development of young talents in the region.
