Taekwondo: Upper West’s Kanpenuba P.N. Wisdom assumes GTF Secretary-General role

Mr. Kanpenuba Peter Nuntaa Wisdom, an educationist and community leader from the Upper West Region, has assumed office as Secretary-General of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF) following the federation’s 2026 elective congress.

Mr. Wisdom was elected as an executive member of the GTF during the federation’s elections in July 2026, before subsequently taking up the position of Secretary-General under the new administration led by re-elected President Frederick Lartey Otu.

The new leadership is expected to guide the development of taekwondo in Ghana over the next four years, with priorities including grassroots development, athlete welfare, technical development and strengthening the country’s participation in international competitions.

Mr. Wisdom brings to the position experience spanning education, local governance, community service and sports administration.

He is a teacher and Head of Department at Wa Technical Institute, where he previously served as Dean of Discipline. His professional experience in education and discipline has also complemented his longstanding involvement in youth development and community affairs.

Beyond his professional role, Mr. Wisdom serves as the Assembly Member for the Kaleo-East Electoral Area in the Nadowli-Kaleo District of the Upper West Region, where he has been involved in local development and community representation.

His involvement in taekwondo has also extended beyond the regional level. He previously acted as Upper West Regional Chairman and National Board Member of the Ghana Taekwondo Federation and currently serves as a board chair in the region.

His elevation to Secretary-General therefore marks a progression from regional and board-level responsibilities to a key national administrative role within the federation.

As Secretary-General, Mr. Wisdom is expected to play a central role in the federation’s administration, coordination and implementation of its programmes, while working with the President and other members of the executive to advance the sport across Ghana.

His background in discipline and community service also aligns with one of his longstanding areas of advocacy in promoting discipline among young people and preventing drug and substance abuse.

Mr. Wisdom’s new national responsibility provides an opportunity for the Upper West Region to contribute more prominently to the administration and development of taekwondo in Ghana, while potentially creating greater visibility for athletes and young people interested in the sport in the region.
