Upper West Region records 143 cases of road accidents in 2023

Mr Mohammed Abdul-Samad, the Upper West Regional Head of the National Road Safety Authority, says a total of 143 cases of road accidents were recorded in 2023 compared to 95 cases that were recorded in 2022.

Out of the number, 45 deaths were recorded in 2023 while 40 deaths were recorded in 2022.

Mr Abdul-Samad, who said this in an interview with Info Radio in Wa, said the situation is worrying and needs to be curbed.

He said these cases are from January to September 2023. He said all road users should observe road traffic regulations to help avoid preventable accidents.

Also, Mr Abdul-Samad said 183 injuries were recorded in 2023 compared to 153 injuries in 2022.

The Road Safety Director indicated that though the cases increased in 2023 compared to those recorded in 2022, the situation would have been worse if the stakeholders had not increased their activities.
