Bliss Eye Care Superintendent Urges Annual Eye Checks for Children

Parents and caregivers should ensure children have their eyes examined at least once a year, the Superintendent of Bliss Eye Care in Wa, Dr Zakarea Al-Hassan Balure, has urged.
Speaking to Info Radio on World Sight Day, Dr Balure said good vision can support children’s learning and classroom performance, while undetected eye problems may make it harder for them to study.
He said parents who make deliberate efforts to enrol their children in school and pay their fees should give equal attention to their eye health. He added that studies indicate about 80 per cent of children’s learning takes place through sight.
Dr Balure also said Bliss Eye Care has screened the eyes of more than 30,000 children and distributed over 4,000 pairs of eyeglasses through its Blissful Sight for Kids (BS4K) programme, a corporate social responsibility initiative.
