Residents of Kunfabiela Number One in the Wa Municipality are calling on authorities and benevolent organisations to urgently address a worsening water shortage that has left more than 500 people relying on a single ageing borehole.

Residents say the borehole, which has served the community for more than 60 years, is their only source of water. The limited supply has led to long daily queues, with families struggling to collect enough water for their needs.

Speaking to Info Radio, residents including Waabuzie Baziere and Waabuzie Joseph described the situation as difficult, citing the absence of alternative sources of potable water.

Yelbieba Dakpul said competition for water has triggered frequent disagreements at the borehole, with some encounters escalating into physical confrontations.

Stellah Benkro said the shortage and long waits are also affecting children’s education. Parents, she explained, sometimes struggle to find enough water to bathe their children and wash their school uniforms, delaying their preparation for school.

The residents are appealing for urgent intervention to provide a reliable supply of safe water and ease the pressure on the community’s only borehole.
