The University of Business and Integrated Development Studies (UBIDS) has announced an important opportunity for aspiring legal practitioners, urging Bachelor of Laws (LLB) graduates nationwide to enroll in its newly approved pre-bar programme. The call was made by the university Vice-Chancellor Professor Emmanuel Kanchebe Derbile during the university’s second congregation ceremony for the School of Law and a special graduation ceremony for the School of Graduate Studies in Wa.

Professor Derbile revealed that UBIDS’s School of Law is among 19 institutions granted approval by the General Legal Council to run the one-year pre-bar programme under the Legal Education Act, 2026 (Act 1170). He explained that the programme is meticulously designed to prepare LLB graduates for professional legal training and to address the longstanding backlog of law graduates awaiting admission into the professional law course.

The ceremony celebrated the academic achievements of 70 law graduates, comprising 61 males and nine females, alongside the conferral of postgraduate degrees to 298 students—including eight PhD and 290 master’s degree recipients.

Chairman of UBIDS’s Governing Council, Dr. Benjamin Bewa-Nyog Kunbuor, emphasized that recent reforms in legal education and increased access to professional legal training are vital for strengthening Ghana’s justice system. He highlighted that producing well-equipped lawyers capable of tackling emerging legal, technological, economic, and governance challenges is essential for national development.

In his address, Dr. Kunbuor also urged postgraduate graduates to continue advancing research, scholarship, and innovation, emphasizing their crucial role in Ghana’s socio-economic transformation in an increasingly knowledge-driven global economy.

The event was further distinguished by the presence of the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, who served as the special guest of honor. Mr. Bagbin called on UBIDS to deepen collaboration with industry and public institutions, ensuring that research directly informs national policy and development planning.
