The Upper West Regional Police Command has remanded Four immigration officers and two residents of Naro into police custody following their involvement in the death of 38-year-old Mr. Patrick Banoebuuri on March 7, 2025. The officers and the two Naro residents are expected to reappear in court on March 17, but it remains unclear whether they have been formally charged with causing Mr. Banoebuuri's death.

Mr. Banoebuuri, a father of four, tragically lost his life while in the custody of the immigration officers after being accused of attempting to sell 18 sheep allegedly belonging to a local resident. The incident has ignited outrage in the community, raised critical questions regarding the treatment of individuals in custody, heightening demands for justice from both family members and local residents.

According to sources from Info Radio, the controversy began when Mr. Banoebuuri attempted to sell the sheep to a Fulani man in Naro. The Fulani man grew suspicious of Mr. Banoebuuri’s claim of ownership, prompting him to involve the residents of the Naro and Piree-Kaangu community. When members of the community confirmed the rightful ownership of the sheep, Mr. Banoebuuri promptly admitted to the mistake and agreed to return the animals.

Tensions escalated as the community debated appropriate punitive measures. While some called for public lashing due to Mr. Banoebuuri's alleged history with livestock theft, others advocated for his delivery to immigration officers for presumed discipline. Ultimately, this decision would lead to a tragic turn of events.

Details continue to emerge regarding the circumstances of Mr. Banoebuuri's detention and subsequent death. Eyewitness accounts suggest that he was subjected to physical assault while in the custody of the immigration officers, provoking public outcry over the officers conduct and accountability.

As community members come together to mourn the loss of a father and neighbor, local leaders have expressed their disappointment over the handling of the case. "It is unacceptable that a situation as grave as this can unfold," one resident stated. "Mr. Banoebuuri's tragic death must lead us to demand better oversight and treatment from those who are tasked to protect us."

The Upper West Regional Police Command has yet to issue a statement regarding the investigation and the fate of the 4 officers and two residents involved. As the situation develops, the community remains on high alert, pressing for transparency and justice for Patrick Banoebuuri and his grieving family.

As the accused 4 immigration officers and 2 Naro residents prepare to face the court on March 17, the weight of the community's grief and calls for justice hangs heavy in the air, underscoring the need for answers and accountability in a case that has rocked the very foundations of this tranquil region.
