Residents of Silaa, a community in the Guo Electoral Area of the Wa West District, are calling on the district assembly and development partners to urgently complete and install a borehole that was drilled in 2016 but has since remained non-functional.
In an interview with Info Radio, the residents expressed growing frustration over their reliance on a single operational borehole, which they say is woefully inadequate to meet the water needs of the entire community. They warned that the limited access to clean water is negatively affecting their health, hygiene, and daily domestic activities.
The residents revealed that long queues have become a daily routine as households compete for access to the limited water supply.
“We sometimes spend hours just waiting to fetch water, and this often leads to disagreements and tensions among community members,” one resident explained.
Mr. Siibu Gbene, a concerned resident, said the community has repeatedly appealed to authorities over the years to complete the abandoned borehole project, but their calls have gone unanswered.
He emphasized that access to clean water is a basic necessity and urged the Wa West District Assembly and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the issue.
“The borehole was drilled nearly a decade ago, and since then, it has just been sitting idle. Meanwhile, our community continues to suffer from water shortages,” Mr. Gbene lamented.
