The District Chief Executive for Wa West, Mr. Richard Wulo, has announced the arrest of ten suspects in connection with an armed roadblock incident at Kendeu, which reportedly involved extortion and abductions. According to Mr. Wulo, security agencies responded swiftly to intelligence received on November 23, 2025, revealing that a group of young men had blocked a key road, demanding money and valuables from unsuspecting travelers.

A coordinated operation involving police and military personnel led to the apprehension of the suspects. However, preliminary investigations have uncovered more alarming developments, including the abduction of two individuals during the incident. The whereabouts of the victims remain unknown, and authorities are continuing investigations to locate them.

In response to the security threat, Mr. Wulo disclosed that a reinforcement team of 100 operations and intelligence officers from the national headquarters has been deployed to bolster security efforts in the district. The deployment aims to restore calm, prevent further escalation, and reinforce the ongoing security measures.

During the third Ordinary Meeting of the Wa West District Assembly held on December 29, 2025, at Wechiau, the DCE called on the Regional Police Command to expedite investigations to uncover the full truth behind the incident. He also commended the Regional Minister for initiating a mediation process between the Lassia and Kandeu communities, which has seen notable progress through ongoing dialogue efforts aimed at fostering peace and stability in the region.
