Sankana Pempieni residents appeal for support towards completing self-initiated electricity project

The chiefs and people of the Sankana Pempieni community in the Nadowli-Kaleo District have appealed to the government and other philanthropists for support towards completing a self-help electricity project.

Parts of the Sankana community have been connected to the national grid leaving out Pempieni which has about seven sections.

As a result, the residents have taken it upon themselves to contribute and extend electricity to the community in anticipation that the government and philanthropists will come to their aid.

The residents revealed that they have so far spent over GHC37, 000 on the project. They mentioned that the Member of Parliament, Anthony Mwinikaara Sumah supported the project with GHC15, 000.

Tienaa Peter, a resident of Pempieni spoke to Info Radio in Pempieni and appealed to the government and other philanthropists to come to their aid.

Some women in the community expressed their displeasure over the lack of electricity in the community. According to them, they cannot engage in any business due to the lack of electricity in the community.

They lamented that teachers are refusing to post to the community’s school because of the lack of electricity. The women advanced that all the young men in the community are running away to galamsey sites in search of jobs.

Blaise Gyilnaah, the Assembly Member for Sankana North Electoral Area, has responded to the concerns of the community.
