Sankana-Chaangu Residents Left Homeless after Rainstorm Destroys Houses

Residents of Sankana-Chaangu in the Sankana South Electoral Area of the Nadowli-Kaleo District are in a state of distress after a rainstorm completely ripped off houses in the community.

The incident occurred on Sunday, April 21, 2024. The storm destroyed electrical poles and cables, and a part of the Chaangu JHS has been ripped off including the teachers’ quarters.

The storm also collapsed the Chaangu Baptist Church structure.

The residents said, however, that human lives were not lost but their animals were killed and a lot of trees destroyed. According to the residents, their foodstuff, seeds, and other things were also destroyed.

In an interview with Info Radio at the community, they narrated that they are homeless due to the disaster.

The Chief of the community, Naa Kpieowiiri Danyelebu, added that the disaster has adversely affected the people of Chaangu. He is calling on the government, NGOs, philanthropic individuals, and benevolent organizations to come to their aid.

The Unit Committee Member of the area, Mr. Enock Gyiwaa, noted that most of the residents are homeless.

He is appealing to the government and other benevolent organizations to come to their aid as soon as possible.
