Residents of Sakan-Changu bemoan lack of potable water, say they drink from other communities

Residents of Sakan-Changu in the Nadowli-Kaleo District have bemoaned the difficulties in accessing potable water in the community, saying they drink from nearby communities.

In an interview with Info Radio at the community, Madam Gyiiwaa Vida said they have four boreholes but none is functioning to support them in terms of access to potable water.

She added, unless they walk to Sakana to beg for water, they will not get water to perform domestic functions such as washing, cooking, among others.

Madam Vida described the situation as worrisome as all four boreholes drilled are not flowing.

She lamented that if the boreholes were flowing, it could significantly ease their suffering.

Another resident, Mr. Lukman Dari stated that the three boreholes which flows scantly break down every three days, compelling them to drink with animals from streams.

He said they have to use tricycle to go to Sakana to fetch during the dry season water which also causes them financial challenges as they have fuel the vehicle daily.

Some men stressed that their wives go out early dawn to search for water and only return in the evening with impure water.

The residents therefore appealed to the government and benevolent organizations to come to their aid with potable water in the community.
