Residents of Oli appeal to gov't, stakeholders for good drinking water

Residents of Oli in the Guo Electoral Area of the Wa West District have appealed to government and other stakeholders to come to their aid with good drinking water.

They said the entire community is served with only one borehole.

They disclosed to Info Radio at the community that, until the provision of the borehole they are presently using, they used to trek to other communities like Gbacha and Salimaana to fetch water.

Madam Deborah Breinya, a resident, indicated that the single borehole is highly pressured as the population of the community outweighs its strength, causing it intermittent breakdowns.

She added that women usually wake up at around 2:00am and start to queue at the borehole and only return home some four hours later with just a basin of water.

She said the situation has resulted in low economic productivity as productive hours are spent on long queues at borehole.

Madam Titaabu Kadabaye, another resident of the community, added that the inadequate portable water has inflicted much suffering on them.

She said the only borehole breaks down in fleets as much pressure is mounted on it by the mass of residents desiring water for daily domestic activities.

She lamented that they have contributing monies every now and then to repair the borehole because it is unable to stand the pressure.

The residents appealed to the government to come to their support by providing additional sources of water.
