Residents of Kenkellen, a farming community in the Chala Electoral Area in the Daffiama-Busie-Issa district of the Upper West Region have voiced growing concern over the deteriorating state of the community’s road network, which they say has severely hampered movement, trade, and access to essential services. The community’s plight was highlighted in an interview with Info Radio, where residents described the road conditions as a significant obstacle to daily life.

According to residents, a key road that was initially developed to connect the Duu community and branch to Kenkellen remains incomplete. Bridges along this route have been left uncovered for several years, rendering the stretch impassable, especially during the rainy season. The neglect has led to increased isolation of Kenkellen from neighboring towns, complicating transportation and economic activities.

The residents are calling on relevant authorities to expedite the completion of the road network linking Kenkellen to surrounding communities. They specifically emphasized the need for a direct route from Kpare to Kenkellen to facilitate easier movement and boost local development.

The concern over poor infrastructure is echoed by the area’s Assemblyman, Hon. Mumuni Seidu . He expressed serious apprehension regarding the state of roads within the Chala Electoral Area, citing the deplorable conditions of roads connecting Kenkellen to Vieto, a distance of approximately 10 kilometers, as well as roads linking Boopulung, Kanchaara, and Duu.

Hon. Mumuni noted that while a contract had been awarded for the construction of the Kpare-Duu road, work was halted after some bridges were built, leaving the structures exposed and the project incomplete. He appealed to the District Assembly to deploy Disaster Recovery and Infrastructure Program (DRIP) machinery to repair and open up these roads, emphasizing that such measures are essential for ensuring safe passage and improving the livelihoods of the affected communities.
