Public Health Nurse Calls for Family Support For Successful Breastfeeding

Public Health Nurse working with the Upper West Regional Health Directorate Madam Kuutir Eleonora has underscored the crucial role that society, families, and partners play in supporting breastfeeding mothers, highlighting how such support can significantly enhance the breastfeeding experience.

Speaking to Info Radio during the breastfeeding week celebration , Madam Eleonora explained that assisting breastfeeding mothers by managing household chores, running errands, or offering emotional encouragement allows mothers to rest and concentrate on feeding their babies. She encouraged partners to actively participate in nighttime care, such as bringing the baby to the mother or handling diaper changes, describing this involvement as a “lifesaver” for exhausted mothers.

She added that having a supportive partner helps reduce stress levels, which can positively affect milk production and improve the overall breastfeeding journey.

Madam Eleonora also advised mothers to focus on breastfeeding their babies rather than worrying about physical changes like sagging breasts, noting that breast milk provides all the essential nutrients a baby requires for healthy development.
