Residents Of Gilang appeal for irrigation dam

Residents Gilang in the Wa East District say they do not have a dam where their animals could drink from and for irrigation purposes, especially in the dry season.

Speaking in an interview with Info Radio at the community, Yahaya Kuri, a Unit Committee Member, observed that they have sufficient potable water for domestic purposes.

He however, bemoaned lack of dam for their livestock to drink from and also for dry season gardening.

According to Mr. Yahaya, livestock within the Giland enclave trace all the way to Dupare and other far distanced communities with dams for water.

Mr. Adaare Fuseini, a resident who doubles as the community’s School Management Committee (SMC) Chairman, on his part, expressed the view that with a dam in the community, they could engage in dry season gardening and their livestock will not be tracing for water to drink in far distanced communities.

He said sometimes, the livestock do not return after having traced water at faraway lands.

The residents therefore appealed to the government through the Wa East District Assembly to consider Gilang when executing the government’s flagship ‘One Village One Dam’ projects.
