Residents of Charile appeal for electricity

Residents of Charile in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region have bemoaned the lack of electricity in the community saying it has negatively affected their livelihoods.

Samuel Sumabo, a resident of the Charile community told Info Radio at the community that it has become very difficult for them to engage in any economic activity to earn income.

He explained that they have to ride daily to neighboring communities to charge their mobile phones.

“We made several appeals to the government to extend electricity to our community but nothing has been done about that. If we have electricity now, it will open the community for development.”

“Some of us have gone to learn different trades in Wa and are back to the community doing nothing due to the lack of electricity,” he explained.

Regina Richard, also a resident of Charile reiterated that women in the community are bearing the brunt of the lack of electricity in the community.

She says women in the community cannot do any economic activities like selling of refrigerated water to support their families.
