Residents bemoan Dabo Health Centre’s poor condition

Current state of Dabo Health Centre

Residents of Dabo in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region have lamented the deplorable state of the community’s primary healthcare centre.

They said the Dabo Health Centre is bedeviled with challenges that affect the quality of its service delivery. The residents stated that the health facility’s challenges include deplorable structure, insufficient space and equipment among others.

Some women who spoke to Info Radio in Dabo expressed worry over the deplorable conditions at the health centre. According to the women, the lack of space in the facility has led to men and women being admitted into the same room.

The situation has become so dire that two women were admitted and had to share the same bed.

One resident, said: "It's really concerning to see men and women being admitted into the same room. There's no privacy, and it just feels wrong. And now we have two women sharing a bed? That's just unacceptable."

Another women from the community added that pregnant women who come to deliver in the facility do not get enough time to rest due to the limited space and beds. She said that a woman who delivers and still resting have to leave the bed anytime another woman comes in to deliver no matter the time period.

A member of the community mentioned that pregnant women who come to deliver in the facility don't get enough time to rest because of the limited space and beds.

She explained that a woman who has just delivered and is still resting is required to vacate the bed whenever another woman arrives to deliver, regardless of how long she has been resting.

The In-Charge of the Dabo Health Centre, Jonas Zineyiri lamented the current state of the facility. He stated that the facility currently does not have any means of transport. They must rely on hired tricycles popularly called ‘Cando’ to transport pregnant women to Wa, the regional capital for scans.

According to Mr Zineyiri, the lack of a means of transport is affecting quality and timely healthcare delivery.

The Assembly Member for the area, Ambrose Gambozie, called on the Wa West District Health Directorate, the Wa West District Assembly and benevolent organizations to help renovate an abandoned structure at the facility to reduce the current ugly situation.
