The founder and leader of the newly established Action Alliance Party (AAP), Namuru Tahiru, has declared the party’s commitment to tackling corruption and fostering meaningful change in Ghana’s political landscape. Speaking at the party’s national congress in Wa to confirm its leadership team, Tahiru emphasized that the AAP is poised to challenge the status quo and address long-standing issues that have plagued the country’s governance.
Formed in 2018 and officially registered with the Electoral Commission of Ghana, the AAP positions itself as a fresh alternative to the country’s dominant political parties. Tahiru criticized the performance of the two major parties, the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP), asserting that they have failed to effectively combat corruption and serve the interests of Ghanaians, especially the youth.
“The perception that smaller parties lack impact is misguided,” Tahiru stated. “The AAP is determined to reform the system and hold those in power accountable. We have the independence and courage to prosecute corruption cases without fear or favour.”
He also highlighted the party’s focus on youth empowerment, revealing plans to develop policies aimed at reducing unemployment and creating sustainable job opportunities for young Ghanaians. The party’s grassroots support is reportedly growing, with many members from both major parties expressing interest in joining the AAP due to its stance on transparency and accountability.
Looking to the future, Tahiru expressed optimism about the party’s prospects, predicting victory in the 2028 general elections. He outlined plans to contest candidates in all 275 parliamentary constituencies, with at least 15 candidates expected to participate in the upcoming elections. Additionally, the party aims to make significant inroads in the Upper West Region, where Tahiru believes the AAP can secure up to four parliamentary seats.
As the AAP continues to build momentum, many observers see it as a potential game-changer in Ghana’s political arena, promising a new approach rooted in integrity, youth engagement, and genuine reform.
