NDC: All eight sitting MPs in Upper West retain parliamentary candidateship


All the eight incumbent National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs) in the Upper West Region have secured their bid to represent the party in their constituencies in the 2024 general elections.


The NDC parliamentary and presidential primaries held across the country at the weekend also saw Dr. Titus Beyuo, a former Secretary of the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), securing his bid to represent the NDC in the Lambussie Constituency as a new entrant.


Dr. Hassan Rashid Pelpuo, the incumbent MP for the Wa Central Constituency, beat his closest contender, Mr Hudu Mogtari and two other aspirants to stand elected as the NDC parliamentary candidate for Wa Central Constituency.


In the Lawra Constituency, Mr Bede A. Ziedeng won against his closest contender, Mr Sampson Abu, a former MP for the area and Mr Daniel Tigbee.


Mr Ziedeng, in his victory address, thanked the delegates for the confidence they have reposed in him to represent the party once again in 2024.


He said that was an internal contest and that the main work was to win the seat for the NDC in 2024.


Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, a sitting MP for the Wa East Constituency also won, while Superintendent (rtd) Peter Lanchene Toobu, the incumbent MP for the Wa West Constituency also secured victory.


The rest were: Mr Cletus Dapilah, the incumbent MP for Jirapa Constituency; Mr Mohammed Adam Sukparu, MP for the Sissala West Constituency and Mr Anthony M. Sumah, MP for Nadowli-Kaleo Constituency.


Dr. Sebastian Sandaari, the MP for the Daffiama-Bussie-Issa Constituency also won against his sole contender, Mr Abu K. Kasangabata, a former Deputy Upper West Regional Minister.


For the orphan constituencies in the region, Dr. Richard Kuuire won in the Nandom Constituency, while Mohammed Bataglia secured his bid in the Sissala East constituency.
