Lawra MP calls for swift intervention for victims of Eremon SHS inferno

The Member of Parliament for Lawra Municipality, Lawyer Bede A. Ziedeng has appealed to the government to take immediate steps to bring relief to the victims of the fire incident that occurred at the Eremon Senior High Technical School.

This was contained in a press statement issued by the Lawra Constituency lawmaker on February 7, 2023 following the inferno, and copied to Info Radio.

On Monday night, at about 1970 hours, a female hostel of the school was gutted by an inferno during prep hours, razing down five rooms and displacing about 170 female students.

“… I appeal to the Municipal Assembly, the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council and the entire NPP government of Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo-Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia to take immediate steps to bring some relief to the girls and the school authorities,” Lawyer Ziedeng said in the statement.

The MP expressed sadness over the development and expressed deep sorrow to the students and school authorities.

He said the unfortunate incident took him aback “because I got the said news a few minutes after I returned to Accra yesterday from the constituency” but has however expressed relief that no life had been lost through the incident.

While calling on the government to take swift action, the MP has called on parents to remain calm as efforts are underway to find a suitable solution for the incident.

He said he is in touch with the school management, the Municipal Chief Executive and the Regional Minister to addressing the situation so that students’ academic work is not unduly distracted.

Lawyer Ziedeng also called on public-spirited people to join efforts in supporting the students and the school so that the burden of reconstructing the razed-down dormitory will not be the sole burden of the government.

The Lawra Constituency legislator assured that he will make any support available within his means when the school authorities have fully assessed the situation and given indication of their priority areas.
