Concerned Youth of Lassia-Tuolu and surrounding communities in the Wa West District have issued a compelling plea to authorities and security agencies , condemning what they describe as a breakdown in justice and security within the Wa West district. In a press conference addressed by the Youth on Wednesday, they expressed deep frustration over the handling of recent criminal cases, particularly the kidnapping and brutal murder of two innocent Birifor brothers, Gaa Kwame John and Darin Dondoma Moses, within the past week.
The youth group highlighted that the incident follows a series of troubling events, including an attack on Lassia-Tuolu in October 2025 that resulted in the death of a Birifor individual. The subsequent murders of the two brothers at Kandeu ignited widespread concern, prompting a security meeting at the Upper West Regional Coordinating Council. During the briefing, the State Attorney confirmed the arrest of ten suspects in connection with the murders. Of these, nine suspects have been granted bail, while one suspect remains in police custody and has reportedly confessed to the crime alongside accomplices at large.
However, the youth group expressed alarm over the legal proceedings, revealing that the legal representation for the accused is being provided by a lawyer associated with the firm of the Regional Minister—who also serves as Chairman of the Regional Security Council. Significantly, this lawyer is related by blood to the State Attorney managing the case. This familial and professional connection, they argue, creates a clear conflict of interest that undermines the fairness, transparency, and integrity of the justice process. The Concerned Youth condemned this arrangement as an unacceptable breach of justice that risks eroding public confidence and allowing manipulation behind closed doors.
Adding to their concerns, the youth group also reported a pattern of intimidation and threats targeted at the Birifor community, including warnings of banishment for those resisting coercion from the district capital, Wechiau. They described a climate of insecurity that hampers community members’ freedom of movement and their ability to conduct daily affairs without fear.
In light of these circumstances, the youth advocate for a reconsideration of the district’s security and administrative arrangements. They proposed relocating the Wa West District capital to a more peaceful and secure location such as Poyentanga, Vieri, or Dorimon—areas they believe could foster safety, stability, and peace for all residents.
The youth’s call to action underscores a growing demand for justice, fairness, and a safe environment where communities can thrive free from intimidation and violence. They urge authorities to address these issues promptly and transparently to restore confidence and security in the Wa West District.
