The Assembly Member for the Samatigu Electoral Area, Millicent Zuuri organized a community outreach in Kaluri, a community under her electoral area to inform residents about the nationwide gun amnesty declared by the Ministry of the Interior. The amnesty, which runs from December 1, 2025, to January 15, 2026, aims to encourage individuals with unregistered or illicit firearms to surrender them voluntarily, with assurances of protection from arrest or prosecution during the period.

The initiative, themed “Silencing the guns to save our lives,” follows extensive consultations with security agencies, traditional leaders, and civil society organizations. Addressing community members, Hon. Zuuri emphasized the importance of active participation and urged residents to take advantage of this opportunity, seeking clarification where necessary.

"Residents are encouraged to surrender their firearms peacefully during this period. It is an opportunity to contribute to our collective safety," she stated.

Mr. Cesar Tenzagh, Assistant Narcotics Control Officer, explained that the process is straightforward and not intended to threaten gun owners. However, he warned that after the deadline, possession of unlawful firearms would attract legal action.

"The process is simple and active, not hostile. But we want to emphasize that after January 15, any unlawful gun possession will be met with enforcement," he cautioned.

The Chief of Kaluri, Naa Ibrahim Baaladong Tendaana II, also weighed in, condemning the use of guns, especially with bullets, during outdoor events. He reiterated the community’s stance against gun violence and urged residents to support the amnesty.

For those wishing to participate, Corporal Isaac Appiah, responsible for firearm registration in Nadowli-Kaleo, outlined the necessary documents: Ghana Card, two passport-sized photographs, and the digital address of the gun owner.

Community members are encouraged to take advantage of this initiative and contribute to a safer environment for all.
