The people of the Nanga community in the Tanduori Electoral Area of the Nadowli-Kaleo District lamented neglect by the government.

They complained about the exclusion of the community from the government's pro-poor policies, particularly the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) program.

Over 100 community members, including widows, vulnerable individuals, and Persons with Disabilities, gathered under a neem tree on Thursday to express their frustration with the government's neglect.

The residents of Chari-Nanga, speaking to Info Radio, expressed their disappointment about the lack of government impact in the community for a long time.

They said “We have heard about government support for vulnerable individuals in other communities, but so far we haven't seen any support for our community. We have been asked to take pictures several times in order to be enrolled in the LEAP program, but unfortunately we haven't been included.”

The residents have made a pledge to prevent any politician from campaigning in their community during the 2024 general elections unless their concerns are addressed beforehand.

They have also stated that they will not take part in the elections unless the elderly, widows, and vulnerable individuals in their community are enrolled in the LEAP program.

“If our concerns are not addressed before the upcoming elections, we, the women, will erect a signpost to block all politicians from campaigning in our community.

The Assembly member for the area, Esong Gabriel, has expressed his concern about the exclusion of the community from the LEAP program.

According to him, despite several appeals to the district assembly to enroll the community on the program, no positive results have been obtained.

The residents are worried about this issue and hope for a resolution soon.
