Challa Assembly Member Calls for Construction of Dam in Electoral Area

Mr Mumuni Seidu Baani, the Assemblu Member for Challa Electoral Area, in the Daffiama Bussie Issa district, has appealed to the government to prioritize constructing a dam in the electoral area.

According to him, they have over 70 herdsmen with their cattle in the area but there is no single water source for the animals to drink during the dry season. He indicated that the district is generating revenue through the cattle owners but their animals cannot get water to drink.

“If you check, Kenkellen, Kpari and Challa areas have a lot of cattle, and the assembly is generating so much revenue from them, but we don’t have a single dam or even a pond for the cattle to drink from.”

He stated that even when they go to the herdsmen for revenue they keep asking them why they should pay revenue when their cattle do not have water to drink.

“So we would be glad if the government prioritises constructing a dam for the area. We are not asking for a dam in every community but just one for the animals in these communities to drink from,” he added.

He noted that the government has started constructing a dam in Kenkellen under the one-village one-dam program, but the project has since been abandoned.

“Ten dams were designated for the district, and Challa was the recipient of one. The contractors arrived at the site and began work, but the machinery broke down less than three hours into the job and was taken away. They have not returned to the site since then.”

Meanwhile, Mr Nandi Imoro Sanda, the District Chief Executive for Daffiama Bussie Issa has stated that he held discussions with the residents of Kenkellen in the Challa electoral area for the construction of a dam.

They constructed the dam, which was unfortunately broken. He assured them that he is committed to ensuring that the dam will be repaired during the upcoming dry season.
