Youth urged to incorporate climate change awareness messages in their engagements

Mr Ampofo Amankona, the Upper West regional Director of the National Youth Authority (NYA), has urged the youth of the region to incorporate climate change awareness messages in their engagements.

He made the call during the sitting of the Upper West Regional Youth Parliament (YP) to discuss interventions made the Ghana Health and Education Services at improving adolescent reproductive health (ARH) in the Wa East District following its research in the area few months earlier.

While encouraging the YP to continue its ARH stakeholder engagements, he asked the youth to include climate change actions in its activities.

He said climate change was a critical phenomenon which is a threat to humanity.

He seized the opportunity to speak to the youth about the 27th Conference of Parties (COP 27) which was being held in Egypt.

The NYA Director also urged the youth to be ambassadors against bushfires which were eminent in the coming days as the dry season begun.

He enjoined the youth to take as a responsibility to stop bushfires and tree felling which are environmental and land degrading practices that threatens food security in the present and near future.

Mr Amankona further urged the youth to be cautious of violent extremists’ activities which were prevalent in the sub-Sahara and West Africa regions which was not absolutely immune to.

He acknowledged that young people were vulnerable, victims and perpetrators of the acts and ought to be positive vigilantes in their communities and support the government’s “See Something, Say Something” campaign.

He said the youth, like every other citizen, has a responsibility to support government’s efforts of building one safe Ghana for all and generations yet unborn.
