Water woes cripple livelihoods in Kpankole, residents appeal for help

Residents of Kpankole in the Yibile Electoral Area are crying out for urgent intervention as a deepening water crisis threatens their daily lives and livelihoods.

With only one borehole serving the entire community, a borehole drilled nearly 20 years ago, the growing population now finds itself in long queues, struggling to access clean water.

The acute water shortage is disrupting economic activities, particularly for women who rely on water for small-scale businesses such as brewing the local drink ‘pito’. Speaking to Info Radio, several residents expressed their frustration over the situation.

“As women, we leave the house at dawn and can spend the whole day at the borehole. Sometimes, we don’t even get water and have to resort to the stream,” lamented one resident.

Another added, “Without water, we can’t brew pito, so we have no business or income. It’s affecting our lives badly.”

Many blame the government for years of neglect. Mr. Gandaaakuu Agang Yidaana, a community member, accused successive governments of turning a blind eye to their plight.

“Our challenges are many. We are trying to develop our community, but we receive no support. The borehole no longer meets our needs.”

The residents now appeal to the Wa Municipal Assembly to urgently drill additional boreholes to ease the pressure and restore their livelihoods.
