The Member of Parliament for Wa West constituency, Sup (rtd) Peter Lanchene Toobu, has donated 10,000 branded exercise books to the Wa West Education Directorate for distribution to schools within the constituency.
This initiative aims to support Junior High School (JHS) students as they begin the new academic year.
The donation, made to coincide with the “My First Day at School” event on September 2, 2025, complements an earlier contribution of GHC 200,000 by the MP aimed at assisting brilliant but financially needy students in the area.
Speaking at the handover ceremony in Wa, Hon. Lanchene Toobu emphasized the importance of preparing the youth for the future, noting that these educational resources are critical to students’ academic progress and success.
“I believe the future belongs to the prepared youth, and we must invest in their education to ensure they are equipped for the challenges ahead,” the MP said.

He further announced plans to visit several schools in his constituency to personally celebrate the first day of school reopening for a new academic year with the students.
Additionally, each of the branded exercise books bears a motivational message from the MP, Hon Lanchene, encouraging students to embrace learning and strive for excellence.
The MP believes that the message printed on the books is more important than the books. That’s if the students take the message seriously.
“The greatest wealth and strength of this country is its youth. Education is the greatest weapon in our fight against poverty, deprivation, illiteracy, and underdevelopment”, excerpts of the message on the book read.
Receiving the donation on behalf of the Wa West Education Directorate, Mr. Ametus Tug-uu, commended the MP for his commitment to education in the constituency.
“Availability of learning materials in this district is nothing to write home about. I think this would go a long way to assist teaching and learning,” he stated.
The district director for education also took the opportunity to appeal to the government to review the teacher promotion structure within the Ghana Education Service (GES).
“I will like to appeal to the president through the Education Minister to look at the promotion structure of GES and do a reset. We have juniors who are promoted ahead of their seniors. I believe in the president, and I know he will address this issue.”

Mr. Tug-uu reiterated. He emphasized that improving the career progression of teachers would motivate educators to enhance their performance and deliver quality education.
The donation forms part of ongoing efforts by the Wa West MP to boost educational resources and support the academic advancement of students in his constituency.
The Wa West MP has consistently mentioned education as one of the prime sectors he would pay much attention to. He often states that it is the only way to salvage the people of the district from poverty and ignorance.
