The former Assembly Member for the Tanina Electoral Area in the Wa West Constituency, Asani Abdul-Razak Tiehisung, has declared his intention to contest the position of Constituency Youth Organiser for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Wa West.

Announcing his bid, Mr Tiehisung said the decision followed extensive engagement with the rank and file of the party, which convinced him that more work remains to be done within the youth wing of the NDC in the constituency.

"I therefore accepted the challenge to lead in providing the sort of leadership that is intentional about delivering on the needs of the youth," he said, describing his bid not as a pursuit of position, but an offer of service and leadership for the collective advancement of young party members.

He described the youth as both the strength of the party today and the architects of its future, and pledged to build a youth wing that is united, organized and purpose-driven, with every young person offered a meaningful opportunity to contribute.

His vision, he said, is to transform the youth wing into a vibrant force active in every branch of the constituency, responsive to the concerns of young people, and prepared to help deliver victory for the NDC in the 2028 general elections. He vowed to work closely with branch executives and the entire youth of Wa West to build a network of young people motivated to serve and organised to act.

"This is more than a campaign; this is a call to collective action," he said, appealing to the youth to rally behind a vision where no branch is forgotten and no young person is left behind. "The future we desire will not be handed to us — we must organise, work and build it together."

Mr Tiehisung's declaration comes ahead of the NDC's 2026 Constituency, Regional and National Executive Elections, with nominations for constituency-level positions set to open on Tuesday, September 15, and close on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

According to the party's timetable, filing of nominations will take place from September 23 to 24, vetting from September 25 to 27, with constituency executive elections themselves scheduled for October 24 and 25, 2026, ahead of the National Congress in December, where national officers will be elected.
