Wa Police foil dawn animal theft on Yebile Road

The Upper West Regional Police Command has arrested two men in connection with the theft of livestock after a dramatic dawn chase along the Wa–Yebile road.

The suspects, identified as Atif Nuhu (20) and Abdul Nasiru Issah (30), were nabbed on Saturday, August 23, 2025, around 3:00am when a police patrol team led by Chief Inspector Eric Kyeremeh intercepted a suspicious white Hyundai Grace mini bus (registration GW 385-10).

According to police, the driver refused to stop when signaled, forcing officers to give chase. One of the men attempted to flee but was quickly subdued. He sustained a minor injury and was later treated at the Wa Municipal Hospital.

A search of the bus uncovered a disturbing sight—five nanny goats and three sheep, all with their mouths bound tightly with black tape. The animals, along with the vehicle, have since been impounded as evidence.

Preliminary investigations suggest the livestock may have been stolen from the Gwollu area in the Sissala West District.

The suspects are currently in custody, and the police are urging residents who have recently lost goats or sheep to report to the Wa Municipal Police Station for identification.

Regional Commander DCOP Darko Offel Lomotey has commended the patrol team for their swift action, while calling on the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements, particularly involving animals.

"We are determined to clamp down on livestock theft in the region," DCOP Lomotey assured.
