Wa: Headmistress of Jamiat Islamic Girls’ SHS appeals for fence wall amid rampant rape cases

Hajia Afisata Salia, the Headmistress of Jamiat Islamic Girls’ Senior High School (SHS) in the Wa Municipality, has appealed to the government to provide the school with a fence wall to help save the students from rampant rape cases.

She said the school is accessible to all manner of persons at any point in time due to the lack of a fence.

Madam Salia made the appeal in an interview with Info Radio at the school on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 when a suspect was picked up in connection with a rape case on Monday night.

The Head Mistress noted that some people also broke into stores of the school and made away with bags of rice, sugar and other food items meant for feeding the students, and said that case was currently before the police.

She, however said the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo-Addo, during his campaign to region prior to the 2020 general election, promised to build a wall around the school but that the President was yet to fulfil his promise.

Narrating the situation to Info Radio, some victims of the attack said the suspect refused to collect money on offer in order to allow them, but insisted that he wanted to have sex with them.

The suspect was followed up and apprehended at his residence earlier, and currently in the custody of the Police.
