Wa East MP Supports BECE Candidates

Dr. Godfred Seidu Jasaw, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Wa East Constituency, has supported final year Junior High School (JHS) students in the Wa East District to enable them to prepare for their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE).

Each of the 1,230 candidates received a mathematical set, an important set of tools every basic or second cycle student needed, especially those sitting for exams.

The MP also donated sanitary pads to the final year students to keep them safe during the exams and during their two months at home after exams while they wait for the outcome of the exams.

Each female candidate was also expected to receive three pieces of the sanitary pads which was expected to serve them for three months.

Dr. Jasaw was noted for his commitment to improving the education of children in his constituency and for his unflinching support to the education sector in the district in general.

Mr Abdul-Latif Iddrisu Kaapuori, the Special Aid to the MP, handed over the items to the Wa East District Education Director on behalf of the MP.

He said it was part of the commitment of the MP to improve educational outcomes in the district which he had done for the past three years since he assumed office as MP.

“Since 2021 the MP assumed office, this is not the first time he is doing this in the district. It has been one of the areas that he took interest in”.

“… education is one of his priorities and every year he demonstrates his commitment to supporting our brothers and sisters to prepare them towards the BECE”, he explained.

He indicated that following the support of the MP in the educational sector in the district, the district had emerged first in the region in the BECE performance for the past three years, a feat the MP hopes to sustain.

In an interview with Dr. Jasaw after the donation, he said the support was premised on the fact that most of the children came from poor homes and would not be able to afford the mathematical sets for the exams.

He said he had also been organzing mock exams for the final year BECE candidates over the past three years to prepare the candidates adequately for the exams which had let to remarkable results of the candidates.

Madam Ayishatu Ibrahim, the Wa East District Director of Education, commended the MP for the kind gesture and said it would go a long way to support the girls in their exams.

“On behalf of the directorate and the children, I thank the MP for this kind gesture. The district is a deprived one and many parents find it difficult to buy mathematical set for their candidates to go and write”.

“But for three consecutive years now he has been providing them with mathematical sets which is very necessary when you are writing exams and he has been helping them, the children write comfortably and come out with flying colors”, she observed.

She said a menstruating girl without access to a sanitary pad presented a serious challenge to the girl and that the sanitary pads would enable the girls write the exams comfortably.

The students did not also mince words in thanking the MP for the donation.

Some parents who spoke to Info Radio said the donation had brought great relief them as parents since they would save their little money from buying the mathematical sets and sanitary pads.
