Wa: Curious Minds pays courtesy visit to Upper West Regional Minister


The Wa Chapter Club of the Children and Youth in Broadcasting (CYIB), Curious Minds has paid a courtesy visit to the Upper West Regional Minister, Dr Hafiz Bin Salih on Wednesday at his office.


The visit was to among other things introduce the Curious Minds organization to the Minister, its activities, programs and modus operandi, and also show to the Minister a plaque of official commencement of operations which was earmarked to unveil at the launch of the chapter club on December 10, 2022.


In the meeting with the Minister on March 01, 2023, the Regional Coordinator and President of the club, Mr Philip Tengzu expressed elation to the Minister for opening his doors to the club.


He told the Minister that “Curious Minds is a youth-led organization that is into the promotion of the welfare and development of children and young people in general” through evidence-based advocacy using the radio as a tool.


He added that the Curious Minds, at the time, had four regional chapter clubs across the country of which the Upper West Region was privileged to be one.


He noted that the organization does not operate in isolation but in partnerships with both government ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) and international not-for-profit organizations including some United Nations (UN) agencies as well as other like-minded organizations.


Mr Tengzu drew the attention of the Minister to a few of the recent projects that the organization had implemented over the last few years and those that were currently being implemented, towards the improvement of the well-being of children and young people.


He cited the “Girl Power Project 4 Change” and the “RFSU Project” which were implemented in partnership with the STAR-Ghana Foundation and the Swedish Association for Sexuality Education (RFSU), towards building the capacities of young girls and women on their Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) and Comprehensive Abortion Care (CAC).


On his part, Dr Bin Salih said he was overjoyed to receive the Curious Minds saying that, anything that has to do with children and youth was of great interest to him.


He said that children and youth are the future of society and that any step towards their well-being, upbringing and development should be given great attention.


He commended the executives of the club for taking the step to ensure that the Upper West Region was among the only four regions that the Curious Minds was currently operating.


He urged the leadership of the Club to be of good character and to consciously imbibe nationalistic values in its young members to grow up to be responsible and worthy members of society.


He urged the Club to resilient in carrying out its duties and assured that the Club could count on his support.
