Vehicle owners and drivers in various lorry stations across Wa in the Wa Municipality of the Upper West Region have expressed enthusiastic support for the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority’s (DVLA) nationwide re-registration exercise of vehicles . During a recent visit by a DVLA team to sensitize residents about the process, vehicle owners noted that the initiative promises significant benefits for their daily operations and the broader transportation sector.
Speaking to Info Radio at Wa- Kejetia, several vehicle operators highlighted that the re-registration of all vehicles and motorcycles would positively influence their work, especially in attracting passengers. Many explained that passengers often prefer vehicles with new number plates, perceiving them as stronger, faster, and more reliable. This, they said, could translate into increased patronage and improved income for drivers.
The vehicle owners also emphasized that the exercise could help curb illegal vehicle transactions. They pointed out that some individuals smuggle vehicles into the country without paying the appropriate customs duties. The re-registration process, they believe, will assist authorities in identifying such vehicles and enhance compliance with regulations.
While expressing optimism about the initiative, the owners acknowledged potential challenges related to the cost of re-registration. Some suggested that making registration fees affordable would ease the process for vehicle owners. Others remained hopeful, asserting that the exercise would proceed smoothly and efficiently.
The DVLA’s re-registration initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize vehicle records, improve road safety, and combat illegal vehicle activities.
