A major road linking Wa to communities in the Wa West District is currently blocked following the collapse of a bridge connecting Varempere and Vieri. The incident, attributed to heavy rainfall, has severed crucial transportation links, isolating residents in affected communities.

The collapsed bridge forms a critical section of the road that connects the Wa Municipal and Wa West Districts. Residents now face the arduous task of using less-developed, lengthy alternative routes to access each other, significantly impacting daily life and trade.

Speaking to Info Radio, several residents expressed their concern and appealed to the Wa West District Assembly and the government of Ghana to take immediate action to restore the vital link. They highlighted the urgent need for repair works to resume as soon as possible to reconnect their communities and ease the hardship caused by the closure.

"Our livelihoods depend on this road," said a resident of Varempere. "We are now forced to travel long distances on poor roads, which takes hours, and increases the risk of accidents. We need this bridge back in operation as soon as possible."

The Wa West District Assembly and relevant government agencies have yet to release an official statement regarding the extent of the damage and the timeline for repairs. At the time of filling this report on Monday morning, the Wa West District Chief Executive Mr. Richard Wullo was at the scene of the incidents to assess the demage. According to the DCE, they are expecting the district engineers and officials of the Ghana Highways authority to come to the scene to assess the extend of damage to the bridge .However, residents are hopeful that swift action will be taken to restore the bridge and ease the disruptions caused by the recent incident.
