The Assembly Member for Fian and Dean of Assembly Members in the Upper West Region, Mr Stephen Katuole, has called on the new government to prioritize competence and commitment when appointing individuals to the position of Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs).

Speaking in an interview with Info Radio, Mr Katuole emphasized the importance of appointing people who are not only qualified but also willing to serve the communities they are entrusted with.

“The President should appoint DCEs that are committed and willing to work for the growth of the assemblies. We don’t want DCEs that will come and think the position has been given to them as compensation to come and enrich themselves.”

He highlighted that appointees should be familiar with the specific challenges facing the assemblies they will oversee.

Additionally, the Dean stressed the need for a good working relationship between the appointed Chief Executive Officers and the assembly members. He noted that such collaboration is essential for ensuring the smooth implementation of developmental projects and policies that benefit the community.

“If you appoint DCEs that do not have a good relationship with their people, they will not see anything good about their work. They can do all the good things, but the people will not have anything good to say about their works,” Mr Katuole stated.

Mr Katuole’s remarks come as the government prepares to fill key MMDCEs positions across the country. He stated the need for transparency and accountability in the selection process to ensure that only those who genuinely have the best interests of the people are appointed.
