Upper West Region has enough dams for dry season farming-Dams Construction Supervisor

The Supervisor in Charge of constructing dams in the Upper West Region, Daudi Sadir Sayawu, has stated that the region currently has sufficient irrigation dams to support dry-season farming.

He said while new dams are being built, some of the existing ones require desilting.

“The government has awarded contracts for the construction of seven new dams in the region, and the contractors will begin working after Christmas. They are expected to complete the construction before the next farming season”.

Some of the communities that will benefit from the new dams include Kperisi, Kataa, Kpagidiga, Gilang, Tuosaa, and Cherile.

Speaking to Info Radio, Mr. Sayawu confirmed that there is still enough water in the region for irrigation.

“We have enough dams that are still having water and some are under construction. The new ones are still okay but the old ones need desilting.”

He also mentioned that there were no reports of any of the dams breaking their banks in the rainy season this year.
