Upper West N12 Road on the Brink of Collapse Over Neglect by Local Authorities

Kaleo, Upper West Region - The N 12 road, a major commercial artery that connects Wa to several major cities in northern Upper West and Burkina Faso, is on the brink of collapse due to years of neglect by local authorities. The road, which has been partly washed off by rains in 2023, has not been attended to by the authorities, leaving residents and motorists worried about its safety.

The part of the N 12 road, which borders the Kaleo dam, is a crucial link for commuters and truckers hauling goods from Ghana to Burkina Faso. The road connects Wa to the Nadowli-Kaleo district, Jirapa Municipal, Lawra Municipal, Lambusie District, Nandom district and many other towns in the Upper West Region.

However, despite its importance, the road has been left in a deplorable state, with potholes and cracks gaping open like chasms. Residents and motorists have expressed their disappointment with city authorities for failing to rehabilitate the road, which they say could be washed away in the event of a heavy rain.

"It's a disaster waiting to happen," said Mr. Peehee Albert-Kaleo West, the assembly member for Kaleo West Electoral area. "If we don't take immediate action to fix this road, it will be washed off in the next heavy rain. We need to act quickly to prevent this tragedy."

Motorists who use the road daily have also expressed their frustration with the state of the road. "I've never seen a road in such a state," said one motorist. "It's a nightmare to drive on this road. I'm worried about my safety and that of my passengers."

Residents of Kaleo have called on the Upper West regional minister and the government to expedite action in fixing the road. "We need our leaders to take action now," said another resident. "We can't continue to suffer like this. We need a safe and stable road to move around."

The N 12 road is a critical link between Ghana and Burkina Faso, with thousands of trucks hauling goods from Ghana to Burkina Faso using the road daily. The collapse of the road would not only affect trade but also pose a significant risk to human life.

The situation is dire, and residents are calling on local authorities to take immediate action to fix the road before it's too late. The authorities must act quickly to prevent this disaster from happening.
