Three Arrested Over Murder and Causing Harm in Gbiniyiri

Three persons have been arrested by the Police in connection with cases of murder and causing harm at Gbiniyiri in the Savannah Region.
The arrests were carried out by the Inspector-General of Police’s Special Intelligence Team in collaboration with the Savannah Regional Police Command on March 14, 2026. The suspects have been identified as Yaw Bamuah, Yaa Bokaa and Kuma Simpor.
According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, suspect Yaw Bamuah admitted during interrogation that he was involved in the attack. He also mentioned several alleged accomplices, including Anuda Borour, Pobiye, Bitunor Sansa and James Sanyuah, who are currently being pursued by the Police.
Police investigations further revealed that the attack was allegedly carried out as retaliation following the killing of a relative of the suspects. The suspects reportedly believed the relative had been attacked by robbers suspected to be members of the Fulani community.
The Police in a statement signed by Station Officer, Richard Osei Yaw, said Yaw Bamuah subsequently led investigators to his house at Gbiniyiri, where a single-barrel shotgun with serial number BAT 2598-88 and two live AAA cartridges were retrieved from a concealed spot within the compound.
The suspects are currently in Police custody assisting with investigations and are expected to be put before court soon.
Meanwhile, the Police say efforts are underway to arrest the remaining suspects believed to be connected to the incident.
Gbiniyiri, a community in the Savannah Region, has in recent times experienced tensions linked to violent incidents and reprisals involving local residents and suspected armed groups. Security agencies have since been monitoring the situation closely to prevent further escalation and maintain peace in the area.
The Police have assured the public of their commitment to bringing all persons involved in the incident to justice.
