Takpo-Tuori Assembly Member engages electorates in development-oriented durbar

In a bid to strengthen grassroots democracy and foster community-led development, Assembly Member for the Takpo-Tuori Electoral Area, Hon. Alexis Anzagira, has held a well-attended durbar with residents of the community to engage, listen, and deliberate on pressing concerns of the people.

The event, held in accordance with Section 56 of the Local Governance Act (Act 936), brought together community leaders, unit committee members, youth groups, and concerned residents eager to share their views and collaborate on shaping the future of Takpo.

In his address, Hon. Anzagira expressed gratitude to residents and unit committee members for their unwavering support and commitment to community progress. He acknowledged the numerous challenges facing the area—including poor road infrastructure and erratic electricity supply and reaffirmed his determination to address them.

“As part of the District Roads Improvement Project (DRIP), we are working closely with relevant authorities to ensure Takpo benefits from improved road networks,” he said, adding that discussions on electricity expansion would intensify once the President’s nominee for District Chief Executive (DCE) is confirmed.

The Assembly Member also took a significant step by inaugurating a community development committee, tasked with partnering the unit committee to drive coordinated development efforts in the area.

During the open forum, residents raised key concerns including the destruction of farmlands by stray cattle and the growing issue of drug abuse among the youth.

In response, Hon. Anzagira urged cattle owners to be more responsible and pledged to engage with all stakeholders for a sustainable solution to the menace.

On youth welfare, he passionately appealed to young people to shun drug abuse and prioritize their health and future.

“The well-being of our youth is non-negotiable. I urge parents, elders, and community leaders to join hands in promoting positive habits,” he said.

The durbar, which marked a little over one year since assumed office, served as a vibrant reminder of the power of citizen engagement and participatory governance.

Residents hailed the initiative as timely and meaningful, expressing hope that their voices would translate into tangible results in the near future.
