Sports psychologist urges parents to support their wards in the field sports

Agbonor Sulemani Rufai

Sports psychologist and Coach, Agbonor Sulemani Rufai, has urged parents to support their wards in the field sports to develop their inherent talents.

He outlined numerous ways through which parents can support their wards to develop their talents in sports.

He was speaking in an interview with Info Radio on Sunday, October 31, 2021 on its popular Sunday sports show, “power sports’’ with host Sunnabuo Magnus (Marcelo, affectionately called by the football funs).

Coach Rufai revealed that some parents kill the talents of their wards and make some feel demoralized in participating in sports as a result of insults and negative words voiced to the wards by parents, with the mindset that sports has no benefits and must be dropped.

The enterprising football administrator stated that, parents should develop interest in sports because “this is the only way that can draw parents closer to their wards in the art of sports.”

Developing full interest in sports will let parents see the need in supporting their wards which will serve as a motivation for their wards to actively participate in such sporting activities, he added.

Further, Coach Rufai told Info Radio that parents should be willing to provide sporting kits for their children as a way to encourage and motivate as well as keep them going in the art of sports.

He added that, jerseys, boots, stocks, volleyballs and other sports kits should be provided to children “for this is the only way to help them nurture their talents in sports.”

Coach Rufai encouraged parents to endeavor to be supportive in nurturing and developing the talents of their wards in the field of sports.

Sports is now a business and an avenue to make a lot of money, he pointed out.

He therefore called on all parents to fully back their wards in sports and provide the necessary support to guide them develop entirely in the field of sports.
